Da Vinci Code

I didn’t trade last night. Went to watch Da Vinci en masse with about half my office. I didn’t really have a lot of expectations from the movie. I did not read the book (there’s nothing trading related in it is there? ;-) ) and I also heard from a bunch of people that they thought it was so so and too long. Anyways I quite liked it in the end. There were bits with long narratives which may be considered boring if you already know the plot but were ok for me since they helped with tying loose ends and fill in the context. I thought the acting was so so, especially by Tom Hanks. Paul Bettany on the other hand was quite good. Ian McKellen was good as well but Jean Reno was casted as an overly stereotypical French police character which is a shame as he’s capable of much more. The movie was also reminiscent of other similar genre movies like National Treasure with Nicholas Cage, Lost Ark etc.
So in short, it’s not a bad movie but nothing great either, I can see why it would make the Church nervous and why a country like Philippines would have issues with it as well (banned in Manila). If you’re a fan of the book you’re likely to enjoy the movie as well.
