Terrible yahoo password recovery system. annoying and barely legible captcha and then you need to remember whatever zip code and country you put in when you registered. I changed address a dozen times, can't remember which country/zip I put in and now the account is locked. Let's see if customer service replies back, which I strongly doubt. Too bad they bagged flickr.

Eyal,
It’s too late now, but in the future you might want to look into a password manager like Password Safe or KeePass. They will not only store strong, unique passwords for each account but you can store all the sort of fiddly address info that you’re bound to forget. It’s saved my bacon several times.
The down side is that in the event of a fire or computer crash, if your password safe gets lost, you’re totally screwed. I e-mail a backup of my password file to my Gmail account and make sure to remember that one :)
Thanks for the suggestion Tyro. I tried one of those online password safe things but it was such a hassle with the required 100 character unlock key + password + special unique phrase. I’m exaggerating, but only slightly. I’ve never used the s/w type, I’ll give it a try. At the moment I’m doing something similar to this with firefox and keep nightly backups of that.
Btw, it looks like I’m going to have to eat my hat on my nasty comments on yahoo, they not only replied promptly but after the first canned reply I actually got a real person who help me reset my password and I’m now back in. I remember trying the same thing a couple of years ago with yahoo to no avail. Someone must have been working hard to improve that since then.
Haha, yeah, I know the feeling of struggling with long pass phrases. In general I let the Firefox Password Manager log me in to most sites (except banks or PayPal). If someone steals my computer I could be in trouble :)
Some sites like Yahoo and Google add some code to prevent Password Manager from remembering passwords but if you get the ‘Remember Password’ bookmarklet you can get around that easily.
Great to hear that Yahoo is working with you.
