More of the same

Same internet problems again. This time after pressing the send button on an order. Lovely.
I’m back online but it’s intermittent. All orders cancelled and I’ll need to take care of this asap.
With the monopoly here over communications lines it wouldn’t even matter if I changed providers as all the players lease lines off a single backbone owner (the local telecom).
At least this time tech support didn’t go through the whole let’s check your windows settings again and are supposedly running tests on my line.
UPDATE
They didn’t find any problem with the line and said they would send a technitian but if they still can’t find a fault with their network they’ll charge me 60 bucks. Yeah right. We went through several iterations of:
TS: Sir, we can send someone and charge you
Me: No way jose.
TS: Sir, we can send someone and charge you
Me: Let me reiterate, no, I will not be paying for you to come and check why the service I’m paying you for isn’t working properly.
And then we made some progress:
TS: Let me put you on hold to check something.
Me: Ok.
TS: Back. I run another test and there’s an insulation fault with your line
Me: What does that mean?
TS: Some wires around your house could be exposed. We’ll send someone free of charge.
Me: Great.
So there you go, I sure hope this gets resolved soon. It’s demanding enough to gear up for trading at 4am in the morning without having to deal with all this.

Do they have wireless broadband down there?
Yeah they do. Used mostly by rich farmers living in the middle of nowhere with a million sheep :)
check out xtra.co.nz
I just checked, it’s 70 a month for 512K and 20Gb data. PLUS 330 installation and 690 for equipment.
Not sure if it’s possible there but I use a GPRS modem as my backup, can access the net pretty much anywhere there is mobile phone coverage.
Good point. We’ve got 3rd generation here. Will have a look at that.
Thanks
