New to trading

One of my good friends told me the other day: “hey I decided to try trading. I’m going to trade forex”. This individual is a mathematician/philosopher with no background in finance but is very intelligent and has a unique way of looking at the world when it comes to things like society, morals and politics. He’s at a stage of trying out indicators, checking out brokers etc. you get the picture. Anyway I wanted to give him some advice, and I think I managed to convey some ideas in my incoherent all over the place sort of way. I get the impression though that most of what I said was probably either too early, too high level or too off putting to a newbie to be taken hid of. We’ll see, I hope he succeeds doesn’t get washed-out.

He is a mathematician/philosopher? Surely, this must be the best possible foundation for a lasting, enquiring approach.
