I just called Telecom to set up my phone line ahead of moving this weekend to the new place. I was told it would take, wait for it, 2 frigging weeks! To have a technitian sent over and set this up. I was totally flabbergasted.
During this time I will be without phone, without internet, nada. That’s what happens with a socialist, protectionist government and a monopoly of the telecommunications sector. I can’t wait till they deregulate, as they will have to at one point, just to see Telecom NZ loses hordes of customers. They already lose them constantly to other broadband providers which offer cheaper plans on the same infrastructure leased from Telecom. In the meantime, Kiwis, and me, will continue living in the 50’s of the previous century.
Edit: See update on this at the bottom of this post.
