Oil

I know what you’re thinking, not another punk who thinks he has something to say about oil that hasn’t been said before! So no, it’s not that kind of oil. It’s engine oil. The change oil led came on in my car. I just bought it (3rd hand) a few months ago I was told by the garage where it was serviced back then that it’ll be due to service in about 5K from then. Obviously that was not entirely true as I’ve only done 2K’s. So far the background, the interesting thing is that the oil in my engine at the moment is a mineral based one while the stuff I bought in preparation to change the oil in a couple of months is Valvoline VR1 synthetic. The two oils are quite different and some people even advise against putting synthetic in an old car (loosens too much gunk, harms gaskets, seals etc.). In any case after a quick oil level check I decided to top it up for now and see how it goes. And so far, the results are very nice.. the engine has more power, better torque, smoother auto gear changes and overall kind of got revived. I’m still watching out for any leaks but hopefully this strategy of mixing in synthetic into the mineral gradually means that the impact on the seals isn’t as drastic and with proper oil and filter change in a couple of months all that stuff will be out of my engine.
