A lot of people ask me about my impressions of country X vs. country Y, so I decided to think about and describe my ideal place based on the best of each country I’ve lived and worked in over the last decade or so. This ideal place would then have the following characteristics:

New Zealand’s
Company’s corporate culture
Management style
Work-life balance
Nature

Hong Kong’s
Salary
Banking system
Government efficiency
Healthcare system (high quality and fast public system)
Friends
Selection of fine dining

Singapore’s
Weather
Condo
Food
Friends
Cost of living
Cost of travel around Asia
Shopping
Beer selection (I would pay quite a bit here in NZ for a nice pint of Ruddles or Old Speckled..)
Kinokunyia book shop (largest bookshop in SEA)

USA’s
Cars
Tex Mex (you just can’t get the same thing overseas)
Time Zone (EST, this trading around the world is killing me)
Internet (speed, costs, integration of services like Google and Yahoo, local shipping from online merchants)
