Thursday trades

I was plagued with problems today. Internet connection died off, when that happened I got the blue screen of death. I suspect this has something to do with the Apple Airport Extreme since it doesn’t happen with my other ZyXEL router. After getting rid of the Apple crap and starting to look at charts finally I realized the new QCharts Final release removed some features that were in the Release Candidate - why? The eSignal god knows. Now although the connection was back on it was extremely slow, my charts were lagging so badly (anywhere from 4 seconds to 30) that I could hardly use them and was trading off the TWS quotes for a while. At some point in the morning I moved my entire desk so that I could connect to the router directly instead of wirelessly as I normally do in the hopes of improving the lag even slightly.

In the middle of all this I went long two stocks: NDAQ and GFI, neither worked as the market sold off and I lost another 0.9R. The main candidate CC didn’t give a dummy spot so I didn’t get into that one.

This is now the worst weekly performance I’ve had this year. Win rate: 0%, Expectancy: -1.05, trades taken: 9. This is coming right after one of the best weeks during the first week of September. I suspect this is going to continue till I finally get over all these issues and start to focus on trading properly.

maybe you want to feel a bit more settled and comfortable in your new surroundings before trading again?

glad to hear that you are well in thailand :-)

    Hi Condy,

Yes I thought about that. However after considering it I realized that:

    1. These losses aren’t just because of the internet, some of them are just because there are occasional losses when trading. It’s unavoidable, happened before and will happen again.

    2. The connection was fine for roughly 2 days, it’s difficult sometimes to know when tech issues are going to hit hard.

    3. I’ve traded in the past under adverse conditions. Deciding not to trade for a while because of occasional tech glitches is a slippery slope.

    4. I took other measures such as reducing my risk substantially during this period. I feel this is a better way to approach it. (Except for today when I’m actually making money and should have tripled the quantity ;-) ).

Thanks for the comment, so far I’m enjoying living in Thailand, a bit of a change of scene and atmosphere.
