Weekend updates and a few movies watched

The market is a little boring so I thought I’d write a bit about the last few weekends. I’ve not updated much lately. I’m slowly going into a routine over here. With weekends spent mostly doing some shopping, eating, movie going, relaxed visits to the pool and watching my favourite sitcoms (Two Men and Half and King of Queens). Today was a nice day as well, went to a new restaurant place not far off from my condo and then to the driving range to hit a few balls. It was bloody hot though so I’m looking forward to go back and do some more when it’s a little cooler.

Movies. Watched a few, here’s a quick round-up. Warning a couple spoilers on The Kingdom.

Resident Evil 3 - didn’t like it. I did enjoy the first and second but this one was really pushing the story thin.

Flags of our Fathers - Pretty good movie, not what I had expected, and that’s a good thing. I thought it’ll be a la Saving Private Ryan, which was a great movie but imitations don’t usually work well.

Letter from Iow Jima - Good movie as well, I watched this one before Flags and initially thought I liked this one more but then slowly as the movies sink in I think Flags was more interesting and showed stuff that I was familiar with before.

The Kingdom
- Liked this one too. Good story and some interesting cultural encounters. Some scenes were quite difficult to watch, I think especially as an Israeli. The suicide bombing, the drive-by shooting, the kidnapping and video filming of the attempted beheading, the assembly of the explosive vests by the Mulsim radicals lined up with nails and marbles for maximum effect. This is stuff that people in Israel lived with on a daily basis and to some extent are still at risk from. Besides the massive and unrealistic shooting scenes the rest was quite interesting.
