Ascaso iMini Home Coffee Grinder

July 12th, 2010 by eyal | 1 Comment | Filed in Day Trading

Update: I’ve been using the Ascaso i-Mini 2 coffee grinder for 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it! I’m now on an obsessive quest for the Perfect Coffee. And this relatively inexpensive home grinder has been one of the best investments I’ve made towards a perfect espresso. The consistency of the grind, the ease of filling up the portafilter and gorgeous smell of coffee in the morning (and afternoon, and evening lol) right after grinding. Fantastic.

Had a great weekend in Singapore catching up with all my friends. Now that almost all of them have moved back to Singapore we can meet more often.

Anyways in between the excellent pubs, restaurants, discussions on the meaning of the life the universe and the markets, champagne brunch, cigar bar, back alley roti prata joint, football finals etc. I managed to squeeze in a bit of shopping and picked up this little beauty:

Ascaso I2 Mini Coffee Grinder

I paid $270 for the I2 Mini Steel version (conical burrs and doserless) which is quite reasonable compared to the US price of $249. In Thailand it costs almost double that.

Had my first shot using it this evening. Marvelous. You can read more about it at the home barista forum which has some good reviews, comparisons and user experiences such as this one.

Feet Fish Spa

March 15th, 2009 by eyal | 16 Comments | Filed in Leisure

Had a nice weekend. Started with a relaxing Saturday at home followed by a more “active” Sunday of pub lunch (steak pie + Guinnes at the Barbican) and then having our feet eaten by fish for about an hour, plus half an hour aromatic oil massage.

It was quite an experience. My feet are pretty ticklish so in the beggining I couldn’t stand putting my feet in for more than a few seconds, then after about 5 minutes of in and out I started getting used to the tickling and left my feet in for a while longer. Then started “phase 2″ the longer the feet were in the more fish came over for a nibble, which meant it started feeling like worms or snakes were sliding and crawling all over my feet – so it’s up the and out of the water again for a bit. But those little buggers looked hungry so I plugned my feet in again. Had to shake a few aggressive ones occasionally for the next few minutes but by the time I was in there for about 15min it started feeling pretty pleasant. Towards the end I was verbally encouraging the little fish – oh yes in between those toes feels good, a little more please.

And this is what it looked like as they were eating the dead skin off our feet.

If you’re interested, check out some of the more luxurious spa in Thailand, or read more about natural healing such as this.

The place is called Cafe de Spa, it’s in Ladprao Bangkok. The fish part is 300 Thai Bhat (~ US$8.50 about a dollar more than that Guinness I had with my lunch) and the optional 30min massage following that was another B300. It’s a pretty good deal, and very relaxing once you get used to it.
